What are the current position openings?

Job #C-304 - Educational Assessor with the Multilingual Assessment Team (MAST) - Reports to designated Administrators. Responsible for conducting educational evaluations and writing report summaries for English language learners who may be identified with disabilities. Evaluates students who are English language learners to determine existence of disabilities. Writes and interpret educational evaluation reports. Attends routine MAST team meetings. Attend building and facility staffings. Attend other meetings as appropriate.

Educational/Experience: Endorsement in special education; two (2) or more years of related experience, preferably in an urban K-12 public school environment. Demonstrated organizational, management and communication skills. Demonstrated computer skills including extensive experience working with operating systems including Windows, Macintosh, and other proprietary systems. Must be bilingual (Spanish/English).

Licensure/Qualifying Standards: A current, valid State of Colorado license in special education. Must have a current and valid State of Colorado driver's license. Fluency (reading, writing and speaking) in Spanish, is required. Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on communications with students, parents, collaborative decision making teams and a diverse multicultural community. Demonstrated experience recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy. Compliance to security and safety procedures, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is required.

Job #C-303 - Social Worker for Multilingual Assessment Services Team (MAST)
Reports to designated administrators. Responsible for obtaining social adaptive information from parents, significant other and students who have been referred to MAST and reports identified social adaptive concerns to home school social worker for follow-up, a directed. Essential Functions: obtains social adaptive information from Spanish speaking families, significant others, and students to assist in determining existence of disabilities; writes social work reports; attend routine MAST team meetings; attends building and facility staffings; attends other meetings as appropriate; acts as a resource to schools, parents and community regarding issues which may be relevant to the health, welfare, and educational needs of students and their families; determines cultural differences and its significance in educational contexts; determines the needs of children with disabilities and analyzes biological and environmental factors that affect children's ability to function effectively in school.

Educational/Experience: Masters degree in social work. Must be bilingual (Spanish/English). Experience in working with Spanish speaking populations is preferred.

Licensure/Qualifying Standards: A current, valid State of Colorado license as a school social worker. Must have a current and valid State of Colorado driver's license. BULLETIN #01/02-177 - Nurse Multilingual Assessment Services Team (M.A.S.T.) - Objective: To obtain health history information from parents, significant others and students who have been referred to M.A.S.T. and reports identified health concerns to home school nurses for follow-up, as directed. Essential Functions: obtains health history information from parents, significant others and students who have been referred to M.A.S.T. and reports identified health concerns to home school nurses for follow-up, as directed; completes all initial health summaries for students referred to M.A.S.T; completes ACTerRs/Conners profile with parents and significant others; coordinates activities with teachers and primary health care providers recommends health care plans, as directed; attends meetings as required or requested; evaluates M.A.S.T. program needs through conferencing and direct observation; provides technical guidance and support to teachers, administrators, and health care professionals on M.A.S.T. program activities; disseminates M.A.S.T. programs materials, as directed; maintains program confidentiality, as directed; performs other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field, with preferred training and experience in pediatric and adolescent health care, and a registered nurse. Two (2) or more years of related experience, preferably in an urban K-12 public school environment. Demonstrated organizational, management and communication skills. Demonstrated computer skills including extensive experience working with operating systems including Windows, Macintosh, and other proprietary systems.

Licensure/Qualifying Standards
: A current, valid State of Colorado license as a registered nurse. Must have a current and valid State of Colorado driver's license. Fluency (reading, writing and speaking) in Spanish, is required. Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on communications with students, parents, collaborative decision making teams, and a diverse, multicultural community. Demonstrated experience recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy. Compliance to security and safety procedures, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is required.

Speech Language Therapists
- Two positions available for the 2001-2002 school year. Serves special needs students with a range of communication needs (language and learning disabilities, dyspraxia, phonological processes, pervasive developmental disorder, autism). Teacher will team-teach with a regular educator in a general education grade classroom (one third and one fifth). Responsibilities include delivering regular DPS curriculum and teaching to state standards while modifying and adapting curriculum as required by the IEP. Must posses CDE licensure in the area of Speech/language pathologist. Licensure in regular education or special education is helpful but not required.

Special Education Teacher I - Moderate Needs for Grades K-12. Responsibilities include providing a full continuum of instructional services. Should possess a comprehensive knowledge of the IEP process, as well as the rules and regulations of IDEA. Have the ability to complete and interpret required assessments. Have the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration. A Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement is required.

Special Education Teacher II - Cognitive or Teacher III-Profound Needs for Ages 5-21. Expertise in the areas of developmentally appropriate programming, behavior management, and writing effective Individual Education Programs. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff and administration. A Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement is required.

Special Education Teacher II - Affective for Grades K-8. Expertise in the areas of behavior management and developmentally appropriate programming. Ability to write effective Individual Education Programs in compliance with IDEA regulations. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration. A Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement is required.

Substitute teachers receive $116.00 a day. A substitute teacher who serves in one assignment for a period of more than sixteen consecutive school days receives $144.91.

Advertisements for Principal and Assistant Principal applicants are placed in newspapers and educational publications at the beginning of each calendar year. All applications received by the closing date (generally mid-February) are logged in and placed on a master list. Committees are formed to screen the applications and identify eligible candidates who will be invited to participate in the Interview/Assessment Process. Following the Assessment, which is a daylong series of individual and group activities, a pool of the most qualified candidates is formed. When vacancies occur applicants are called from the pool to interview for specific positions.
