Essential Functions and FAQs

The top five (5) essential functions performed by this division:

1. Communicate and distribute benefit information on the district's benefits programs.

2. Enroll, maintain, change and delete employees and dependents from participation in the district's benefits programs.

3. Reconcile health, dental and vision, long term disabilities, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts.

4. Initiate, maintain, and ensure the confidentiality of health records for new and existing employees.

5. Validate proper and efficient processing of benefit operations with third party vendors and providers including Kaiser, PacifiCare, Vision Service Plan, Delta Dental and others.

1. Can you explain my benefit deductions?

2. Can I add my dependent to my health insurance at any time?

Response: If you experience a change in status (marriage, divorce, birth, addition to family, spouse lost coverage, death, etc.) you can add or delete a dependent to your coverage. Otherwise, a change in dependent status can ONLY be made during open enrollment in May of each year.


3. If placed on a medical leave, how long does the district pay for health insurance?

Response: DPS pays for health insurance for up to 12 weeks. An employee must complete A & B forms and provide medical validation. Other leave considerations, such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) may apply. Please consult a benefits representative for more information.
