Essential Functions and FAQs

The top five (5) essential functions performed by this division:

1. Determines the relative worth of one or more positions (jobs) to other positions (jobs), both internally and externally, through job ranking, position classification, factor comparison or point fact evaluation. This process is commonly referred to as position evaluation [What is position evaluation?].

2. Conducts wage and salary market surveys to determine the relative compensatory value of positions, both internally and externally, consistent with competitive values established by Denver Public Schools.

3. Designs and implements salary schedules to reflect the relative internal worth of positions and external competitiveness.

4. Reviews compensation practices and salary schedules for inequities and compliance with various employment laws, and takes action to correct or eliminate.

5. Reviews and approves, subject to protocols established by DPS executive management, requests to reclassify positions.

3. What is the process for upgrading, downgrading or reclassifying a position?

Response: You must complete a Position Request Packet, with outlines the submission process. The following information is also included in the Position Request Packet, but it is listed separately for your direct use.
