LEADERSHIP ACADEMY


The Denver Public Schools Leadership Academy is a program designed to identify and prepare potential principals and assistants for our District.

The Leadership Academy is a principal licensure program through a partnership with with the University of Denver. Successful completion of the Academy will provide participants the academic coursework necessary for the Principal License. You are eligible to apply if you wish to become a school building administrator but have not complete a graduate program to qualify for a Colorado Principal License.

Requirements:
The Academy is open to licensed teachers and special service providers who have been employed by the District for at least three years. Applicants must provide the following:

  • A completed application.
  • Three recent letters of recommendation, including at least one from a DPS administrators familiar with the applicant,s work.
  • Two official transcripts from each institution of higher education attended (even if only a few credits). Transcripts may be issued to the applicant.
  • A statement of personal goals and objectives.

Application Process:

  • Applications will be distributed to schools and departments in February 2002 for the August 2002 cohort.
  • Applications may be obtained from principals or the Welcome Center at 900 Grant Street or by calling 303-764-3641.
  • Completed applications materials must be received by the Human Resources Department by 4:30 PM on Tuesday, April 2, 2002.
  • Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 17. Interviews will be oral and written.
  • The program will begin in August 2001 and will conclude in December 2002 (5 quarters ).

Costs:

Participants are responsible for all program costs, including tuition, books and fees. The District will provide 2 days of release time each semester for field experiences. Cost is estimated at $8,300 tuition plus books. Student loans are available through the DU Financial Aid office.
